The Biomarkers Shared Resources at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis is comprised of state of the science technology for proteomic research with instruments such as the Simoa HD-X (Quanterix), the Quickplex (MSD) and the Ella (Biotechne) for biomarker discovery as well as the RxImola (Randonx) for clinical chemistry. These instruments, together with instruments such as the autoMACS Pro Cell Sorter (Miltenyi) and the Cytoflex flow cytometer (Beckman Coulter), the facility provides investigators to access of some of the most sensitive biomarker technology available for discovery purposes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there a cost for using the instruments at the Biomarkers Shared Resources?
Each investigator is responsible for buying his or her own kits directly from the respective vendors. The instruments work mostly as plate readers, so the assays can be set up in the investigator’s own laboratory and then bring the plates to be read in the respective instruments. However, if investigators wish to use the space in the laboratory of Dr. de Rivero Vaccari, then the investigators need to bring their own consumables to run the assays.

How do I learn to use the instruments available at the Biomarkers Shared Resources?
Training can be scheduled with Dr. de Rivero Vaccari or for some instruments, directly with the vendor. Most instruments are available to be used directly by users except the Simoa HD-X analyzer. For running Simoa assays, please contact Dr. de Rivero Vaccari directly.

In what format are the results provided?
Results are typically provided in Excel or CSV format as well as pdf format, depending on the instruments.

Who is eligible to use the Biomarkers Shared Resources?
The Biomarkers Shared Resources are available to anybody at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and the Department of Neurological Surgery as well as collaborators upon discussion with Dr. de Rivero Vaccari.
