Physical Conditioning, Nutrition and Mindfulness as Best Practices

Researchers interested in maintaining optimal health throughout the lifespan investigate how engaging in physical activity, healthy eating, and mindfulness benefit immediate and long-term goals of optimized health and function of persons with SCI.

Miami Project researchers long-ago encouraged physical activity as a countermeasure to secondary medical conditions occurring after spinal cord injuries. While maintaining an optimized level of fitness is key, best nutrition and mindfulness accompanied by physical activity further the goals of health, life-satisfaction, and independence throughout the lifespan. These lifestyle attributes are important for those with SCI and also their family caregivers. Ongoing research programs are designed to test best methods in lifestyle maintenance, and thus provide optimized, evidence-based programs that are affordable and immediately available for adoption.
