Charleston Chapter
The Charleston Chapter was established in 2006 by John Stephens and former class and team mates from The Citadel. This group advocated for The Citadel to retire Marc Buoniconti’s football team jersey.
The Chapter is currently led by Volunteer Regional Director Denise Mills. The Chapter hosts signature events such as an Enchanted Evening, wine tastings and an annual Tailgate Party.
The annual Tailgate Party hosted by the Chapter has become a favorite. The event began in partnership with The Citadel at Johnson Hagood Stadium, and has been hosted next to the stadium at a private home since 2009. The party features local BBQ, Firefly cocktails & craft beer, and live entertainment, with many of Marc Buoniconti’s former class and team mates as well as the Charleston community in attendance.
In an effort to enhance the research efforts of the scientists at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, The Buoniconti Fund established volunteer Chapters in cities throughout the country. These Chapters are an important element to reaching The Miami Project’s goal — a cure for paralysis.
