September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month: Join Us and Get Involved

SCI Awareness Graphic

September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month—a time to honor people living with spinal cord injury, recognize the families, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers who stand beside them, and elevate the shared mission to find cures and advance care. It is also a time to bring more people into this work by sharing information, raising awareness, and encouraging others to support the progress that is changing lives.

At The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, decades of discovery have helped move the field from understanding spinal cord injury to testing promising therapies in people. Today, our scientists and clinicians are advancing neural repair and regeneration, neuromodulation, brain-computer interfaces, rehabilitation, and other emerging approaches – many already moving toward or underway in clinical trials.

SCI Awareness Month reminds us why this work matters and raises the profile of everyone working to help our friends, families, and community members who are living with, and caring for those affected by, SCI. Progress is possible because of years of discovery, collaboration, and the extraordinary commitment of people living with spinal cord injuries who participate in research, as well as the scientists, clinicians, and supporters who make research for both care and cure possible. This September, we encourage you to get involved, share our science, tell your story, and help raise awareness so more people understand what it is like to live with SCI – and why continued investment in research, education, and community support is so important.

Here’s How You Can Get Involved During September:

Share Our Science and Fundraising News: Help others understand how far spinal cord injury research has come and why continued support matters. Throughout September, follow and share research updates from The Miami Project and news about upcoming events. By sharing this information, you can help highlight the scientists, clinicians, research participants, donors, and community partners who are helping fuel the next discoveries. Every post, share, and conversation helps extend our reach and brings more people into the mission. Explore our latest spinal cord injury research stories, share the science that inspires you, and invite others to learn more about the events that support our research.

Share Your Story: Throughout September, share a video, photo, or personal story on Facebook, Instagram, X, or other social media platforms to help bring greater awareness to spinal cord injury. Tell us about your own experience or recognize a family member, loved one, caregiver, researcher, clinician, or someone else who has made a difference in your life. Personal stories help put a face to this mission and remind others that spinal cord injury affects individuals, families, and communities in deeply meaningful ways. Follow us on Facebook @CureParalysis on X @BuonicontiFund and on Instagram @TheMiamiProject, then tag us and use #TheMiamiProject, #SCIAwarenessMonth, and #FacesOfParalysis. Your voice can help expand awareness, inspire others, and strengthen the community working toward cures.
