Marc Buoniconti Honored at Health Care Heroes Award Luncheon

Health Care Heroes Awards Luncheon presented by Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce

Buoniconti Receives the Individual Merit Award

MAY 12, 2011 – The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Healthcare Committee today announced the winners for the 14th annual Health Care Heroes® Awards at a luncheon ceremony held at Jungle Island in Miami on May 12.  The annual awards program honored individuals, institutions, professionals, students, volunteers and programs who through their individual or collective actions have made an extraordinary impact in the South Florida health care community. Marc Buoniconti was honored as an  Individual of Merit recipient for his more than quarter century of dedication to the fight to find a cure for paralysis through his work as President of both The Miami Project and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.

Among the other awards presented was the AXA Advisors Lifetime Achievement Award to James Roderick Jude, M.D., Co-Inventor, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Retired Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeon;  Health Care Professional: G. Patricia Cantwell, M.D., Director, Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Holtz Children’s Hospital; and Professor, Clinical Pediatrics, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine; Nurse: Ann-Lynn Denker, Ph.D., A.R.N.P.; Director, Center for Nursing Excellence, Jackson Health System; Institution/Program: Health Foundation of South Florida; Bio-Medical: Ronald DeMeo, M.D., M.B.A., Medical Director, Meridian Spine & Interventional Pain Medicine; Youth Volunteer Recipient: Diamond Sims, Student, Miami Central Senior High School.
