Faces of Paralysis
Jazzmin, was paralyzed from the waist down as a teenager the result of an immune disorder. As part of her recovery process at The Miami Project, she has been participating in research training programs that include an over ground suspended walking system and a cycling program using electrical stimulation. Jerrod, was paralyzed in a car accident on his way to work a few years ago, leaving him a paraplegic. He has participated in a number of clinical research programs at The Miami Project, and has seen improvements in his overall well-being as a result of that participation.
Richard was paralyzed as a result of a motorcycle accident leaving him with a C-2 incomplete injury. He learned about The Miami Project’s many research programs and was happy to participate. His unique injury provides the opportunity for him to participate in a number of clinical studies that can benefit him and help our researchers answer questions about paralysis.
June was paralyzed following a surgical procedure. After her injury she was only able to walk a few feet using a walker. A wheelchair was her main mode of getting around. As part of her recovery process at The Miami Project, she has been participating in research training programs to improve walking for individuals with spinal cord injury.
